Headed over to Jackson Hole the other night for “Wednesday Friendsday” (thanks to Caryn Donohue, Wednesday is the evening of choice that my friends gather for a meal at a new restaurant). While we came in expecting a traditional pub, we weren’t expecting a diner setting. The decor is pretty much 50s diner with posters shoved in frames and hung on the walls. So for an evening of catching up with friends, it was much better than screaming to each other in a crowded pub.
So why Jackson Hole? Our friend Eddie “EZ” Horta claims that Jackson Hole has some of the best burgers in the city and several of my friends are burgers enthusiasts. Priced reasonably for NYC, you can purchase most burgers for less than $10 or make it a platter for $12-14 – which includes fries, lettuce and tomato. Eddie advised to keep the burger simple since they are quite filling so I went with “The Mexican” platter, which came with cheddar cheese and jalopenos. Others went for regular cheeseburgers, while one of the roommates chose one with bbq sauce and bacon.
After recently seeing the How I Met Your Mother episode about Marshall’s search in NYC for the best burger, I thought I might have a similar experience – I wanted to find the ultimate burger joint. Unfortunately, Jackson Hole wasn’t it. While reasonably priced, I really didn’t think the burger was all that great. If Jackson Hole offers anything, it’s the amount of food – the burger is extremely huge. However, I think the amount of food quickly puts you into a food coma so you don’t realize that the burger is just average. Thinking back on the quality of food, there wasn’t anything really memorable about the meal, except for the size.
Maybe it was the fact that I don’t really like burgers that much or any type of meat after my experience at Churrascaria, but I don’t think I’ll be visiting Jackson Hole again anytime soon. The Basics Name: Jackson Hole Location: 1611 2nd Ave Who to take: Friends Price: Typical NYC. $$.
